FanDuel’s VIP videos: one went to a $1.5m loser
Lawmakers say the Bryce Harper video sent to a bettor who lost $1.5m contradicts FanDuel’s claim the clips never encourage continued gambling.
The hit
Senator Richard Blumenthal & Reps Paul Tonko & Valerie Foushee have demanded FanDuel hand over 30 personalised videos sent to VIP bettors, according to a letter sent this week. FanDuel senior vice president Cory Fox had disclosed the videos in a 24 September letter, calling them a token of customer loyalty. The lawmakers say a Bryce Harper video sent to a bettor who had lost $1.5m contradicts FanDuel’s claim the clips were never used to encourage continued gambling.
Why it matters
The dispute centres on whether FanDuel’s VIP perks target vulnerable bettors rather than reward loyal ones. If FanDuel’s answers don’t satisfy Congress, the VIP programme could face fresh scrutiny or further demands to shut it down.
The record
| Videos in question | 30 personalised clips sent to VIP bettors over two years (Cory Fox, FanDuel) |
|---|---|
| Customer loss cited | $1.5m allegedly lost by a bettor on FanDuel (lawmakers’ letter) |
| Harper video date | Sent November 2024 as a VIP perk (lawmakers’ letter) |
| Prior demand | 10 August letter urged FanDuel to end its VIP programme (Congress members) |
| Deadline set | FanDuel must respond by Tuesday, 20 October (Congress members) |
What happens next
Watch for FanDuel’s response, which could include the requested video copies & customer wagering data.
