Stake’s two-day Brazil return ends in court reversal
A study warns Brazil’s wider betting ban puts R$73bn in tax revenue at risk over four years.
The hit
Stake has been knocked offline in Brazil again, two days after a court let it return. The Federal Regional Court of the 3rd Region overturned an injunction that had let the operator resume trading on 8 October, following an appeal from Brazil’s Attorney General’s Office, according to Casino.org. Stake’s site & app have been unavailable since 10 October.
Why it matters
Judge Johonsom Di Salvo ruled that sparing Stake alone created a regulatory asymmetry that risked undermining the government’s policy. In practice, a site reinstated by a lower court can be taken offline again just as fast.
The record
| Injunction valid until | 25 October, São Paulo federal judge |
|---|---|
| Jobs at risk | More than 15,500 (LCA Consultores) |
What happens next
Supreme Court Justice Luiz Fux is weighing a challenge to the ban but won’t rule before Brazil’s presidential runoff, which prediction markets give Flávio Bolsonaro an 87% chance of winning.
