29 NCAA games fixed, 39 players bribed in point-shaving scheme
Prosecutors say 20 defendants bribed 39 NCAA players across more than 17 teams, with bribes usually ranging from $10,000 to $30,000 a game.
The hit
Jalen Smith, 30, of North Carolina, is sentenced today after federal prosecutors asked for up to 87 months in prison for his role in an NCAA & CBA point-shaving scheme, according to Sports Betting Dime. Smith pled guilty in March to bribery & point-shaving charges plus unlawful firearm possession.
Why it matters
Smith acted as a recruiter, paying college players to underperform & miss the spread, prosecutors say. The indictment names 20 defendants, 15 of whom played NCAA basketball in 2023-24 or 2024-25. Prosecutors say Smith had no role in the scheme’s CBA fixes.
