Kalshi hit with felony charges, DraftKings & FanDuel flee Utah
Fanatics Markets will drop all Utah event contracts entirely, going further than its rivals.
The hit
DraftKings has pulled sports, politics & novelty event contracts in Utah, with FanDuel pulling the same markets at 10am ET today, according to Sports Betting Dime. The moves came the same week Utah filed criminal charges against prediction market Kalshi & its co-founders.
Why it matters
The pullback came in the wake of increased litigation in the state, according to Sports Betting Dime. DraftKings said customers can still trade financial contracts on stocks, commodities & crypto, while FanDuel said its customers can still trade on economic benchmarks & key financial indicators, so this is a sports & politics retreat, not a full exit. Existing Utah positions in the dropped markets will still settle as normal, both companies said.
The record
| DraftKings pulls sports, politics & novelty contracts | 28 October (DraftKings Predictions) |
|---|---|
| FanDuel pulls same markets | 10am ET (FanDuel Predicts) |
| Fanatics Markets exits Utah entirely | 4 November (Fanatics) |
| Charges filed against Kalshi co-founders | 2nd-degree felony pattern of unlawful activity, 12 counts online gambling promotion (3rd-degree felony), 1 count general gambling promotion (3rd-degree felony) (Utah AG Derek Brown) |
| Alleged undercover wagers | 12 bets via Kalshi, 13-26 September 2026 (Utah Attorney General’s Office) |
What happens next
Kalshi says it will fight the Utah charges in court, as it did in Arizona.
